I'd say just give in and learn flash. If you'll only be using it to animate it's not too bad to pick up plus it gives you more control over what the finished product will be. My opinion could just be because I don't like relying on other people for anything. If you do consider giving it a shot I'd suggest picking up a tablet since that should save you a lot of time, drawing with a mouse sucks.
